Why Eye Health Matters

Your eyes are the windows to the world, but visual problems can develop silently. Yearly dilated exams help prevent blindness and ensure lifelong, healthy vision.

Diabetes

Diabetes weakens the tiny blood vessels in the retina which cause bleeding and fluid accumulation. It can promote the growth of abnormal vessels that further contribute to the leakage, thereby increasing the risk of retinal detachments. It’s one of the leading causes of vision loss, but it’s often preventable with early detection and good blood sugar control. Even controlled diabetic patients need comprehensive eye exams.

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure damages blood vessels in the retina. They bleed, leak fluid, and cause swelling of the optic nerve. These complications can further reduce blood flow to the retina and permanently affect vision. Even controlled hypertensive patients need comprehensive eye exams.

Anemia and Other Blood Disorders

Anemia reduces the blood’s ability to carry oxygen to the eye. Many blood disorders cause vessels to become fragile and bleed. As the fluid accumulates in the eye, visual damage occurs.
